Guinea pigs

Gerrard

This is Gerrard, a Merino boar. He was successfully shown until he was 7 months old and has now been put with two sows.

Freddy and his girls

These are tort and White guinea pigs, it's very difficult to get the marking right for showing.  There is one boar with four sows.

One of the sows is now heavily pregnant and has been moved to a seperate cage to have her babies.  I'll post photo's when they are born.

Some of the tort & white baies.

I sometimes have guinea pigs available for re-homing.  Sows £20,  Boars £15.  Ideally they should have company and either live in same-sex pairs or groups.  They should not be kept with rabbits.  Guinea pigs have specialist needs.   They need vitamin C daily in the form of fresh veggies and fruit, lots of hay and "guinea pig" food - NOT rabbit food.   Guinea-pigs can live to be 6 years old, sometimes more!, so careful consideration needs to be taken when considering a guinea pig as a pet, as goes with any other animal.
Guinea pigs do NOT do well outdoors in the Winter, though a shed or unused garage will suit them fine providing it is not draughty or leaky.   Piggies can also be kept indoors and become a true part of family life if kept like this.
